Welcome to the School

Welcome to the School of Animal Studies which is one of four Schools within the Faculty of Natural Resources, Agriculture and Veterinary Science. The School is primarily located on the Gatton Campus of the University of Queensland with staff also on the St Lucia Campus.

The programs offered by our School in the Animal and Wildlife Sciences will become important over the next decade as the world faces intense pressure from its growing population. As a graduate, you will have the opportunity to make a real difference to the world in which we live. We need to ensure that we manage our resources in a responsible and sustainable manner as we produce and market clean safe food for the world’s expanding population while preserving the natural environment and the biodiversity of our wildlife.

Undergraduate and postgraduate programs on offer in the School are amongst the most sought after in Australia and are internationally recognised. You will find that our programs are flexible and offer opportunities for double majors.

The staff of the School believe you will find working with us rewarding. Our students enjoy a range of specific facilities, which allow for appropriate balance between practical experience and theoretical learning. The Gatton Campus is situated on a 1,000 hectare farm with a beef feedlot, abattoir, sheep and goat, piggery, dairy, poultry, equine, deer and wildlife units.

Postgraduate study provides an opportunity to upgrade your qualifications, change careers or enhance your promotional potential. Whatever your reasons, the School is one of Australia’s leading centers for postgraduate studies in the Animal and Wildlife Sciences and offers an active and innovative research culture in which to pursue your studies.

The staff of the School are only too willing to discuss our programs, provide guidance and help you create the future you want. Your studies at times will be very exciting and busy, but never boring – we look forward to working with you.
